Building a Cook Stove
Our projects at the school have really been moving lately. One exciting bit of recent progress is that the school kitchen is just about finished. Andrew has been working on figuring out how to build a cook stove that uses less firewood and that funnels the smoke through a chimney instead of into the kitchen. As things are now, the girls that cook lunch each day sit in a room full of smoke, the kind that stings your eyes and throat, for hours at a time. They also use incredible amounts of firewood because there is nothing to hold the heat in, since they are simply cooking over an open fire.
Here are some pictures of the process of building the stove. Unfortunately the pictures will leave you hanging, because there are still a few steps left before it is complete. Then we will be able to test it out and see if it works!
