Exploring the Pare Mountains

There are actually quite a few Peace Corps volunteers who live in the South Pare Mountains (as we do), so we recently decided to do a bit of a walk-about from site to site to try and get a better understanding of how the mountain villages are laid out and how far they actually are from each other. We had a vague idea of how to get around, simply from asking people in our villages how long of a walk it was from place to place. That’s something great about living in Tanzania- if you aren’t exactly sure where you are going you can just ask along your way and people will gladly point you in the right direction and help you in any way they can.

The walk was a huge success. The best part was being able to see the houses of 4 other volunteers, to get a peek into who their village friends are and how they live. We also were able to hike to an incredible waterfall, hike through a forest reserve, and hike to the beautiful look-out point near our village. Our legs are sore, but our hearts are full. 🙂
